In past Auburn Veterans Day Parades, the Marching Band has received the Mayor's Award for the best musical entry in the parade. Earlier this week, the music department received an email from the Auburn Special Events Coordinator congratulating the band on winning the General's Award this year, which is for the best entry in the entire parade. This is an incredible honor and is unprecedented in Sultan's history. Congratulations, Marching Band!!! |
The Marching Band performed in Auburn's annual Veterans Day Parade and Field Show Competition on Saturday, November 11, 2006. The Turks placed first in the AA division in the parade competition, but took third place for their field show. It was a tough division this year, with Ferndale and Central Kitsap taking first and second places, respectively, but the Turks still bested perennial powerhouses like Sumner, Eisenhower, Kennewick, and three other AA schools. They also beat the score of the third-place band in AAA, meaning they placed fifth overall in all of A, AA and AAA, yet they represented the third smallest school present. It was a great finish to a fantastic year, and we're all proud of these great students! Some pictures are in our gallery.
The Seattle Times spotlighted the Marching Band in their Veterans Day 2006 photo gallery! (External site, will open a new browser window.) Go Abby!
As a side note, the Times did the same thing last year as well.
The Marching Band had another great showing in Everett on October 28, 2006, once again beating out everyone in their A Division as well as all of the AA bands and even three AAA Smalls! Here are the results for The Turks:

The Turk Marching Band is having a great season, winning first place in their division in both competitions so far. With two more tough competitions to go, Assistant Band Director Jon Pardue challenged the Marching Band to get two more first places for their field show -- if they do, he will dye his hair Turk Blue. |
The Turk Marching Band swept the A division and even scored higher than all of the AA bands in Yakima on October 21, 2006! The final results for all bands are posted on the harvestbands.org site, but here are the results for Sultan:
This is outstanding! Some pictures are already up in our gallery -- please send yours in!
The Marching Band competed in Tumwater on Saturday, October 14, 2006. The Turks didn't disappoint, bringing home the hardware for:
Out of a field of ten bands, they placed number four overall -- a great achievement considering that they bested a couple of AAA bands as well as everyone else in A/AA. Some pictures have been posted in our gallery -- please send in more if you have them!
Band Camp 2006 was a huge success! Thanks go out to all of our parent
helpers -- without your support it simply would not have been possible.
