Auburn Veterans Day Award-winners Announced

Six entries receive top honors

The Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation Department would like to announce the winners of the 41st annual Veterans Day Parade. The parade was held on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, with the parade route lined with supporters waving their American flags! The Veterans Day Parade is the focal point of numerous Veteran-related events that take place in Auburn. Marching bands, military and veteran units, military vehicles and equipment, historic cars and community groups all took part in this year's parade. Most notable was the C-17 fly-over, coordinated through McChord Air Force Base. There are six award categories, with the most prestigious award being the General's Award - Best in parade. With almost 200 entries - 26 of them being bands, it is increasingly difficult to determine the winner in each category. Four judges sat at the reviewing stand and took on the complex task of deciding the winners. This year's winners are as follows:

General's Award - Best in Parade

Sultan High School Marching Band

Admiral's Award - Best Military Drill Unit

Ft. Lewis Marching Unit

Memorial Award to Harold Page - Best Veterans Marching Unit

American Legion, Department of Washington

Colonel's Award - Best Motorized Unit

Puget Sound Military Vehicle Collector's Club

Veteran's Award - Best Animal/Mounted Unit

Backcountry Horseman of Washington, Pierce County Chapter

Mayor's Award - Best Musical or Drill Unit

Kamiak High School Marching Band

Congratulations to all winners and a big thank you to all parade participants for supporting our Veterans and our active military. Next years event is slated for Saturday, November 10th.
